Product Description

Copiapoa pendulina KK1391 is a highly collectible Chilean Copiapoa known for its elegant, pendulous growth form and strong clustering habit over time. Native to the coastal desert regions of northern Chile, this taxon is adapted to extreme aridity and intense sun exposure, developing a sculptural, slowly expanding clump of gray-green to blue-green stems with age.

This offering is grown from seed originally sourced from Mesa Gardens (field number KK1391), a well-known source for documented Chilean cactus populations. Plants from this collection are valued for their traceable locality data, giving collectors a clearer connection to wild population variation and habitat-based traits.

Copiapoa pendulina typically begins as a solitary body but gradually offsets to form low, cascading clusters that can appear to “flow” over the pot with maturity—hence the name pendulina. Spination is usually moderate, with a clean, ribbed body that emphasizes the plant’s overall form rather than heavy armament. Over time, mature clumps can become striking architectural specimens.

In cultivation, Copiapoa pendulina KK1391 performs best in very bright light, mineral-rich fast-draining soil, and with highly controlled watering. Like most Copiapoa, it appreciates a strong temperature differential and benefits from dry conditions during cooler months to maintain compact growth and healthy root systems.

Seed-grown and well-documented, this material represents an excellent opportunity to grow out a true field-numbered Copiapoa from a young stage. With time, it develops into a highly sculptural, collector-grade clumping specimen that reflects its harsh coastal desert origins.
