Product Description

Adenia globosa x venenata is an exceptional hybrid that brings together two of the most distinctive species in the genus, combining the dramatic spherical caudex of Adenia globosa with the more refined growth habit and vining character of Adenia venenata. The result is a plant that displays the best traits of both parents and stands out in any caudiciform collection.

The caudex of this hybrid tends to develop a strong rounded form, inheriting the bold, almost boulder-like quality of A. globosa while retaining a slightly more sculptural surface texture from A. venenata. The bark is typically green to gray-green and remains photosynthetic, allowing the plant to continue producing energy even during periods of leaf drop. From the apex emerge slender stems carrying small spines and modest lobed leaves during the active growing season.

In cultivation, Adenia globosa x venenata performs well under conditions suitable for both parent species. It prefers very bright light, warm temperatures, and a fast-draining mineral-rich soil mix. As a summer grower, it responds to regular watering once new growth resumes and benefits from a clear dry rest period during the cool months. Restraint with water during dormancy is essential, as the swollen caudex stores ample reserves.

Hybrids of this kind are particularly appealing because they often show hybrid vigor, with stronger growth and a unique form that cannot be predicted from either parent alone. Each specimen tends to develop its own character as the caudex matures, making mature examples especially desirable.

As with all members of the genus, the sap is toxic and the stems carry small spines, so handling should be done with care. This hybrid is uncommon in cultivation and represents a rare opportunity to acquire a plant with strong genetic provenance and exceptional potential for long-term display.
